PSU 1000

PSU 1000 stock shapes are produced from non-UV-stabilised polysulphone resin. It offers very good radiation stability, low ionic impurity levels and good chemical and hydrolysis resistance. Compared to PEI 1000, it has a lower property profile, often replacing polycarbonate whenever higher temperature resistance and improved chemical resistance are required. PSU 1000 is commonly used in food processing equipment (milk machines, pumps, valves, filtration plates, heat exchangers) and for medical components* subject to repeated cleaning and sterilisation.

Profile

  • High maximum allowable service temperatures in air (180°C, 170°C and 150°C continuously for PPSU 1000, PEI 1000 and PSU 1000 respectively)

Applications

Manifolds
Manifolds machined from PSU 1000 Polysulfone plate are optically transparent, able to be sterilised by radiation, and resist cracking from environmental stresses.
Distributor valves
In the poultry industry, PSU 1000 Polysulfone parts used on processing lines offer chemical resistance and minimal expansion rates.
Medical equipment components
Parts machined from PSU 1000 Polysulfone are compatible with blood on dialysis equipment and can endure repeated autoclaving cycles.
Steam cleaning equipment inserts
Inserts made of PSU 1000 Polysulfone reduce chemical attack on the nylon distribution block in hot water and steam cleaning equipment.
Endoscopic probe positioning ferrule
Because of its excellent autoclavability, PPSU 1000 was chosen as material for the positioning ferrule on the instrument handle of endoscopic surgical devices.
Sighting arm and positioning sight
A fabricated PEI 1000 sighting arm and positioning sight coordinate the exact placement of screws during surgery to realign broken femoral bones. Using the PEI 1000 components, a doctor can view placement through a screen rather than expose his hands to X-rays. After a beam is locked into place, the sight is removed and a hole drilled for a titanium screw to repair the bone.
Clamps
The high dielectric strength and inherent low flammability of PEI 1000 make it ideal for clamps used to connect circuit boards to video display units in aeroplanes, tanks and ships.
